Up, Up, and… Rock Out?

Our Family Trip to Superman (2025)

There’s a special kind of joy when you take your kids to see a new Superman film—especially after months (okay, we’ll admit, years) of anticipation from our little coffee-fueled super-nerd family. We finally got to experience James Gunn’s Superman (2025)  together, and folks: it was worth every moment of the wait.

Superman Soars Again (With a Punk Rock Twist)

Walking into the theater, we all had super-high hopes. Between the trailers, the buzz online, and the fact that we created an officially licensed Superman Coffee, you could say our expectations were flying higher than Clark himself. We’re proud to admit: we’re easy to impress when it comes to Supes—and maybe a little bias.

Right from the colorful, bursting opening shots, you can feel Gunn’s playful, comic-inspired direction. There’s none of that moody blue-gray filter here—Metropolis glows with hope, & optimism.

One detail that had all of us grinning? The music. There are a handful of punk rock references scattered throughout the film that somehow fit perfectly with the modern, energetic take on Superman. Without spoiling anything, they kept both parents and kids tapping their feet and nodding to deeper comic and pop culture roots. “Cuz I’m a Punkrocker, yes I am!”

Cast Callouts (and Surprises!)

David Corenswet brings warmth and vulnerability as Superman, echoing the classic heroism and the inner conflict we loved in the early comics. Rachel Brosnahan is a scene-stealing Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor makes us want to boo and cheer in equal measure. The supporting cast had our crew whispering theories for next year’s sequel before we were even out of our seats.

And then there’s Krypto the Superdog—an absolute show stealer! We were a little surprised (and definitely curious) to see that in this universe, Krypto doesn’t belong directly to Superman himself. Maybe that’s laying groundwork for the Supergirl film next year? No spoilers, but…we definitely bought the Krypto Popcorn bucket anyway.

Our Take: Sincere, Optimistic, and For Big Fans (Like Us)

We might love it a little more because we’re the kind of family who debates Superman’s best villains over Sunday morning coffee. If you’re a Superman nerd, Gunn gives you plenty to geek out over. From heartfelt moments and crazy cosmic villains to a plot that’s (maybe) a bit overloaded, it’s all delivered with sincerity, heart, and a wink to fans of every generation

It’s also a film about hope and optimism—reminding us why we fell in love with Superman, and superheroes, in the first place. Sure, there are crowded showdowns, and at times, the story doesn’t slow down for much reflection, but the highs absolutely soar.

Was it Perfect?

For us—maybe because we’re just delighted to see a bright, fun Superman again (and, okay, total James Gunn and Nathan Fillion fans)—it delivered everything we hoped for.

If seeing your hero on the big screen with your family, surrounded by popcorn buckets shaped like superdogs, isn’t the dream, we don’t know what is.

Final Thoughts

Will the world show up for Gunn’s new DC Universe? Only time will tell. But in our house, we’re already ready for a second viewing, a fresh pot of the Superman Metropolis Mocha Coffee, and some big, bold, super-sized hope. Up, up, and away indeed!
